These videos show artwork created in The 2019 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Project: People, Culture & Country: an initiative of the Department of Education, North Queensland Region, supported by the Queensland Government’s Artists in Residence program through Arts Queensland and the Department of Education.
Short videos showing the modelled art works feature the students telling the artist stories. As part of the project students from north Queensland State Schools developed pieces of wearable art based on their cultural backgrounds. An exhibition opening was held at Townsville’s Queensland Country Bank Stadium in February 2020.

There are students featured in the videos with family ties from Palm Island, Cairns, Weipa, Torres Strait and many other parts of Queensland. An exhibition opening was held at the Riverway event space and gallery in September 2018.

Shield of H.E.R.S is an indigenous women’s group that meets weekly at the Upper Ross Commmunity Center in Townsville. This video was a coproduction with the group inspired by NAIDOC celebrations in 2018 on the theme of “Because of her we can”.

The short doco THE PUB THAT SELLS MORE BOOKS THAN BEER is about amateur historian Douglas Barrie, the publican of the Seymour Hotel. The Seymour Hotel is only 3km from the Bruce Highway. So next time you are in the area stop by for a story. Douglas says the pub is staying in the old days – no mobile phones, no pokies. Just good old fashioned conversation and some diabolical puzzles if you are in the mood.

LensCap’s second big event for 2016 was Luxlumin. Produced and directed by Kate Osborne and César Herrera, with an original soundtrack by Condo, the 10 minute video screened at the Telstra Laneway site on Sturt Street. Watch a short segment at the Telstra Laneway site or see the full story here.

A “Behind the Scenes” look at the Families of Townsville street art project displayed as part of T150 and The Percivals in June and July, 2016. Townsville City Council Gallery Services in partnership with the LensCap Crew have taken historical portraiture to the streets; share the experiences of the project team as they trace the history of some of Townsville’s founding families.
This ‘Behind the Scenes’ video was produced by LensCap to thank the families for sharing their memories and time with us and to create a ‘digital story’ format for the project for the researchers.

Chrissy Maguire’s photography reflects the beauty and drama of theatre. This short film by Kate Osborne and Cesar Herrera was published on ABC Open – Makers and Creators in 2015.
